Mornings are important but can also be hard to get started on the right note. It’s important to have a set routine in your morning that helps you get the most of your day. I’ve compiled some steps to a more powerful morning routine that will not only help you conquer your day but also increase your intelligence!
1Make your bed.
Making your bed is like a holy ritual. Not only is it good to get your mind to start up but it also makes for a less messier space after you’re done!
2 Wash your face and brush your teeth.
I like waking up just to wash my face with my favorite face scrub. That alone will bring in a burst of energy to me and to top it off, brushing my teeth! This duo is a no-brainer. I placed this in the list because I know some of you younger chicas out there may like to rush out of the house for that extra early AM class, etc. If you spend just 10 minutes you can almost just eliminate a morning shower. Which brings me to my next step.
3Meditate for 15 minutes in the morning.
Sit up, Indian style, and do a breathing exercise to get you started in a pure meditative state each morning. I prefer to do this after I’m showered and dressed – that way I don’t fall back asleep!
4Write 3 pages every morning.
Just scribble out all the noise in your head onto paper or a diary that you have. It helps declutter your mind to process information and think clearer thoughts. Kind of like spring cleaning. Sometimes it’s just garbage to get rid of but who knows you may have accidentally found something you were looking for!
5Have a healthy AM lean snack or beverage.
This is just to get your engine going, it’s important to have a little something at least an hour after you wake up. If you are fasting then it’s good to start with at least water before anything else. For me, personally, I like to start with my warm water and lemon and then treat myself to an espresso!
6Spend 1 hour learning something new.
It’s important to carve out time to learn something in your morning routine. It is personal development in the long run, you know if you’re at all interested in that kinda thing 😉
There are so many studies now that show that your morning routine should encompass: 20% of your activities that will give you 80% of the results you want to achieve in your long term goals and or dreams.
So what this can entail is your daily rituals and routines (such as brushing your teeth, showering, meditating, self-care etc.) + career building activities + skill building.
Now you may ask, well how do I do all this in the morning when I have such a hectic week? I would advise starting with 1 of these steps and doing it for a week straight. Then add another, and then another, slowly. It takes a few weeks to build a habit. Once it’s a habit, it will be something you don’t even think about it, you just do it, like peeing.
For me, I have started using Google Calendar to schedule out my mornings in combination with this app called ‘Fabulous’ it is actually built to establish a routine and break bad habits. It allows you to even log how you felt when you started, etc.
Another app that is useful that could be used for establishing a solid schedule or plan is AirTable. If you’re a nerd like me and enjoy organization, then this app is for you. Both apps are downloadable in the iOS/Android app store.
